Trampoline smiles!

It is Friday already and therefore time for  Annie's smiles and Rocking your world Friday (I may just get there on time this week!).  My smiles for this week are the fact that Alex had individual approach to the Robin Hood dressing up day...he did NOT want to be Robin Hood, like every other boy in his class...he wanted to be Little John!  (see previous post for more photos).
My other smiles come from these photos of us attempting to trampoline together...
it was hilarious with some truly dreadful photos (I was trying to take the photos while bouncing!).
Alex then tried some stunt bouncing by himself, which was much more satisfactory.
(he was on the smaller trampolines in one of the parks this time)
and finally for a nature related smile, here is a photo of one of the verges in Rotherham...they have planted them all with wild flowers and they look stunning at the moment. That is all from me for now.  Have a great week everyone.

Costume making (WOYWW)

It is Wednesday and time for another WOYWW, the biggest and best excuse for a nose around the desks of the world hosted by Julia.  Here is my desk, still looking neat and tidy, but this time it has a beard (yes, you did read that right) and a medieval style hat complete with feather for a Little John costume for Alex.  His class have been doing Robin Hood as their topic this term in school and are going to school for a walk and picnic dressed as characters from Robin Hood.
Here he is all dressed up as Little John being fierce with the staff.
I was surprised how well the costume turned out considering I really do NOT do needles and thread etc. The hat was made from the bottom of his brown cord trousers and a feather a generous pigeon had left on our lawn!
I  made the staff from foam pipe insulation covered with brown carpet tape and then string in the middle.  It was a lot safer than the wooden swords and bows that many of the other kids had!
I have also managed to complete another page in my smash book this week, of the May Day bank holiday (yes I am behind again!). I am entering this into All Sorts 'Fur & Feathers' challenge as the page features photos of both birds and animals.  That is all from me for now.  Have a great week everyone.

Wedding smiles!

I'm late for Annie's smiles and Rocking your world Friday as this has been a super busy week. My entry this week is all about family as my cousin got married last weekend giving me a chance to catch up with all of Dad's side of the family.
I guess I couldn't get away without showing you the photo of me in all my glad rags!
In the afternoon there were various fair games to play including coconut shies (I knocked a coconut down), frickets, large scale jenga, huge pick up sticks, throwing horse shoes and splat the rat.  All great fun.
This is the photo of my Dad's family (minus most of our children)
Following the evening meal there was a disco with a  live band and here are my three aunts (Dad's sisters) dancing with my only girl cousin and the happy couple.
The following day we went back for a lovely walk, and lunch before seeing the happy couple off on their honeymoon.  Between lunch and the walk however, there was a rather tense game of jenga!
Where was Alex while all this was going on?  He was having his first ever sleepover without me at his cousins.
He had a wonderful time and is looking forward to staying at Grandma's without me later this summer! That is all from me for now.  Have a wonderful week everyone.

A hot and sunny WOYWW!

Firstly an apology for missing last weeks WOYWW, but I was at a conference in Bristol with no internet (see previous post for photos of our post meal on SS Great Britain!). I did miss my weekly nose round the desks of the world, but am back now ready to play!  This is my desk as it was on Tuesday evening looking alarmingly empty and tidy...the stamps at the back are left over from Alex's crafting session on Tuesday morning, the bright yellow piece of paper is his milk order for next term(!) and the apple is there in case I get peckish between meals (trying to cut down on chocolate).  The astute among you will notice my trusty mug of tea is missing... that is because I have drunk several mugs today and the sweat has literally poured off my nose so I have opted for diet coke with lots of ice to cool me down.
Crafting wise I have had fun this week.. I had to make a travel journal for a yellow knitted crab that has been staying with us.. she is off on her travels again tomorrow so now has a journal to go with her!  I am entering this into Crafty cardmakers 'holiday' as this little crab (known as Great Aunt Crabatha - see the central photo for a portrait of her) is on her hols! I am also entering it into Aud Sentiments 'two words' challenge (Travel Journal!) and Delicious Doodles 'heavy metal' (silver peels offs).
I went to a wedding at the weekend  (photos will appear on here on Friday) and so I can now show you the card I made.  I am entering this into Cupcake Craft challenges 'anything but a square' as it is a rectangular card and PTW 'old, new, borrowed or blue' (blue card, old stamps, new digi image).
The next card I made was for my sister-in-law (she loves elephants) and features a digi stamp in the centre and then little corner stamps.  The background was coloured using dylusions ink sprays (having masked over the elephant to protect it and keep it black and white) and finished off with stitching drawn on in pen, and white edging round the elephant. I am therefore entering this into SSSS 'a little stamping' and MTTC 'masking' (I hope this type of masking is OK).  That is all from me for now... back on Friday with wedding photos.  Have a great week everyone.

Hot and sunny smiles!

It is Friday and therefore time for Annie's smiles and Rocking your world Friday. This has been a busy week, but before I get to that here are some happy photos from last weekend of my little man enjoying the revamped paddling pools and water play area near us.
What fun he had splashing round in the sun.

Now the reason I wasn't around for my usual posting on Wednesday is that I have been away at a conference in Bristol.  The conference was held in Wills Hall, and was extremely good, but the most exciting part of it was the conference dinner which was held on SS Great Britain.
We even had some sun, after most of the day was overcast.
'Bob' the curator gave us a fascinating talk about the ship
and then we were given free reign to explore wherever we wanted... I decided to try my hand at being captain!
Dinner was held in the First class Dining Hall (where Prince Albert dined on the day he launched the ship (19th July 1843)... they renovated the room using the newspaper cuttings from the day.
The food was delicious (salmon for starter, lamb for main course and apple crumble and clotted cream for desert all served with very nice wine),  the company good fun,
and then we were allowed to continue our explorations...this was an area they left mostly untouched to show the state that she was in when she came back to the UK in 1970 and why she will never float again.
I then decided to have a quick lie down to see what it would have been like in one of those bunks in steerage (3rd class).
I could continue showing you photos forever as it was so beautifully done up with smells, sounds and statues in various cabins, galleys, surgeons rooms etc.  If you are ever in Bristol I highly recommend a visit (it is wheelchair friendly too).
I couldn't describe a visit to Bristol without a photo of one of the many Gromits that have appeared around the city (this one was at SS Great Britain).  I am now getting ready to go away again, this time to a wedding so photos of that next week, I promise.  Have a good week everyone.
